Art walk

An Old Town art walk

Eleven stops over about 2.5 kilometres: three museums, six galleries that sell original work, and Charles Bridge. Allow two hours at a gallery-goer's pace. It works best on a weekday afternoon, when every stop is open.

Galleries are round, museums square. The dotted line is the walking order.
  1. Galerie Rudolfinum

Alšovo nábřeží 12 · museum or public gallery

Start at the riverside concert hall. The gallery wing shows Czech and international contemporary art in temporary exhibitions. Look at what is on before you go in; it changes every few months.

  2. Museum of Decorative Arts (UPM)

    17. listopadu 2 · museum or public gallery

Across the street: glass, ceramics, furniture, posters and photography. If Bohemian glass is on your list, this is where to see the best of it before you shop.

  3. Galerie La Femme

Bílkova 2, Josefov · sells original work

Five minutes east through the old Jewish quarter. Contemporary Czech painting that comes directly from the artists or their heirs.

  4. DSC Gallery

Dlouhá 5 · sells original work

Cross Pařížská and continue to Dlouhá, just off the Old Town Square. One of the city's serious contemporary galleries. Weekday afternoons only.

  5. House of the Black Madonna

Ovocný trh 19 · museum or public gallery

Walk through the square and along Celetná. This 1912 building by Josef Gočár is one of the world's few Cubist houses, with a museum of Czech Cubism upstairs.

  6. Old Town Square and the House at the Stone Bell

Staroměstské náměstí 13 · museum or public gallery

Back on the square, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell is a Prague City Gallery venue, open during its exhibitions (the next opens on 3 December 2026). Even between shows, look at its 14th-century façade.

  7. Inter Art Gallery GOR

Michalská 3 · sells original work

South-west from the square, past the Astronomical Clock, into Michalská. Colourful figurative painting by fifteen represented artists.

  8. Gallery Art 11

Michalská 11 · sells original work

A few doors further. Prague views, figurative oils and hand-printed Prague etchings by a small group of established artists.

  9. ART MASTER Gallery (Inmodern)

Liliová 6 · sells original work

Through the lanes towards the river. Eastern European painting and sculpture, with prices shown online. Hours are not published, so check ahead.

  10. Charles Bridge

    Karlův most · street

The licensed artists' stalls line the bridge. A good place to buy a small watercolour or drawing from the person who painted it.

  11. D-Art Gallery

U Lužického semináře 7, Malá Strana · sells original work

Finish across the bridge: turn left at the bottom of the bridge tower. Oil paintings, many of Prague, in a gallery a minute from the river.
